Some of his big achievements in high school include:
- Being named a Second-team Parade All-American in 2006.
- Being on the USA Today All-USA High School Boys' Basketball All-Junior Team in 2006.
- Being part of the EA Sports High School Boys' Basketball First Team in 2006.

In 2005 and 2006, Henry helped his team, North College Hill, win two state championships in Ohio. He was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2006 State Tournament. In 2006, his team was ranked third nationally. He averaged 21.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game that year. He was even named the USA Today National Player of the Week in March 2006.

However, he suffered a serious knee injury (a torn ACL) in January 2007. This injury needed surgery and ended his first college season early. This was actually the second time he had this type of knee injury, as he had surgery on his other knee in 2003.
In the 2007–08 season, Henry played in 31 games. He averaged 16.1 points and 6.3 rebounds. He scored a career-high 31 points in a game against Baylor. In April 2008, Henry and his teammate Michael Beasley decided to leave college early to enter the NBA draft.
