Herbert Eli Scarf (born July 25, 1930 – died November 15, 2015) was an American economist. He was a professor of economics at Yale University. He taught there for many years until 2015.

Scarf was a member of several important academic groups. These included the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. He was also part of the American Philosophical Society. In 1983, he was the president of the Econometric Society. He received special awards for his work, like the Frederick W. Lanchester Prize in 1973. He also won the John von Neumann Medal in 1983. In 1991, he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association.
