Herman Hall (born June 6, 1864 – died September 6, 1928) was an important officer in the United States Army. He served in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He fought in several big wars, including World War I.

Early Life and Military Start

Herman Hall was born on June 6, 1864. His hometown was Carthage, Illinois. He went to the United States Military Academy. This is a famous school for training army officers. He finished his studies there in 1887.

After graduating, Hall joined the 4th Infantry Regiment. He first worked on the frontier, which meant guarding the edges of settled areas.

Service in Wars

Hall served in several conflicts. He went to Cuba during the Spanish–American War. This war was fought between the United States and Spain. He worked in the Sanitary Corps, helping with health and hygiene.

Later, he went to the Philippines for the Philippine–American War. While there, he showed great bravery. He was awarded the Silver Star for his actions. From 1915 to 1917, he was the chief of the Philippine Constabulary. This was a police force in the Philippines.

World War I and Later Years

On August 5, 1917, Herman Hall was promoted. He became a brigadier general. This is a high rank in the army. He briefly led the 80th Division. This was from August 27 to September 9, 1917.

During World War I, he commanded several infantry brigades in France. He also served in Germany after the war.

Herman Hall retired from the army on October 23, 1923. At that time, his permanent rank was colonel. He moved to Santa Barbara, California. He passed away there on September 6, 1928. In 1930, Congress officially gave him back his brigadier general rank.

Herman Hall married Anna Grace Jack. They got married on October 18, 1893.
