Park History

Herrington Manor State Park gets its name from a large house. A real estate investor named Abijah Herrington built this house in the mid-1800s.

The state bought this land in 1935. It became part of a larger plan to develop state forests. Later, the Civilian Conservation Corps helped create the park. They built a dam on Herrington Creek. This dam formed the 53-acre Herrington Lake.

In 1964, the old manor house was taken down. That same year, Herrington Manor State Park officially opened to the public.
