Hettlingen is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It's located in the Winterthur district within the Zürich canton. Switzerland is divided into cantons, which are like states. Hettlingen is a part of the beautiful Zürcher Weinland region.

History of Hettlingen

Hettlingen has a long history! It was first mentioned way back in the year 886. Back then, it was known as Hetelinga.

Geography and Land Use

Hettlingen covers an area of about 5.8 square kilometers. A big part of this land, about 61%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 22% of the area.

About 16% of the land is covered by buildings and roads. The rest, less than 1%, includes things like rivers. In 1996, about 11% of the total area was buildings and houses. Roads and other transport areas made up about 6%.

People and Population

Hettlingen has a population of 3,101 people. In 2007, about 6.6% of the people living here were from other countries. In 2008, the population was almost equally split between males (48.6%) and females (51.4%). Over the past 10 years, the number of people living in Hettlingen has grown quite a lot, by about 42%.

Most people in Hettlingen speak German, about 95% of the population. French is the second most common language, spoken by about 1% of people. English is spoken by about 0.9%.
