A Glimpse into Dägerlen's Past
Dägerlen was first mentioned in old writings in the 1300s. Back then, it was known as Tegerlo. One of its villages, Rutschwil, was mentioned even earlier, in 1219.
In the 1200s, Rutschwil was a "fief." This means it was land given by a powerful lord to someone else. It belonged to the Kyburg family. They had special knights, called ministerialis, who served them. These knights managed much of the land that is now Dägerlen.
In 1264, the Kyburg family line ended. Dägerlen then came under the control of the Habsburgs. The Habsburgs were a very important royal family in Europe for many centuries.

Dägerlen is located near the Zürcher Weinland, which is a wine-growing region. It sits south of the Thur river. The municipality includes several small settlements. These are Dägerlen, Oberwil, Rutschwil, Berg, and Bänk.
