Thalheim an der Thur is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Andelfingen district. This area is part of the Zürich canton.

History of Thalheim an der Thur
Thalheim an der Thur was first mentioned in old writings in 1166. Back then, it was called Torlinchovin. Later, in 1257, its name changed to Torlinkon. This name was used until 1878.
The original name might have come from an old German name, Torilo. This name was used by the Alamanni people around the 7th century. However, the name Torlikon sounded a bit like "Fools' Village" in German. So, in 1878, the community was allowed to change its name. They chose Thalheim an der Thur, which means "Valley Home on the Thur". People in the area still sometimes use the old name.
Geography of Thalheim an der Thur
Thalheim an der Thur covers an area of about 6.4 square kilometers (2.5 square miles). A large part of this land, about 65.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover 21.9% of the area.
About 9% of the land has buildings or roads. The remaining 3.4% includes things like rivers or mountains. Interestingly, even though its name includes "an der Thur," the town is not directly on the Thur river. It is located to the south of the river.
The first bridge over the Thur river was built in 1862. Fourteen years later, a big flood destroyed it. It was rebuilt three years after that. In 1875, a railway line opened. This connected Thalheim an der Thur to other places.

Getting Around Thalheim an der Thur
The Thalheim-Altikon railway station helps people travel. It is part of the Zurich S-Bahn train system. Specifically, the S29 line stops here. This line connects the cities of Winterthur and Stein am Rhein.
