History of Neunforn
Neunforn was first mentioned in old writings in the year 962. Back then, it was called Niuvora. A year later, in 963, a court was already active in the village.
In 1250, a noble called the Freiherr of Teufen sold his land in Neunforn. He sold it to a place called Töss Monastery. Later, in 1500, the local courts in Niederneunforn joined together. By 1554, a family named Stokar from Schaffhausen bought both courts.
From 1694 until 1798, the city of Zurich owned these courts. The local church area, called a parish, included the villages of Oberneunforn, Niederneunforn, Wilen, and Burghof. In 1265, this parish was given to Töss Monastery. It officially became part of the monastery in 1291.
A big religious change, known as the Protestant Reformation, came to Neunforn in 1525. During this time, Zurich closed Töss Monastery. Zurich then took over the rights to the parish in Neunforn. Zurich kept the power to choose the preacher for the parish until 1843.
