Hide-A-Way Hills is a special community located in Ohio, a state in the United States. It's found in two different counties: Fairfield County and Hocking County. In 2020, about 976 people lived there. It's known as a "census-designated place," which means it's an area identified by the government for counting people, but it's not officially a city or town with its own local government.

History of Hide-A-Way Hills

How the Community Started

Hide-A-Way Hills was created in 1961. It was planned from the beginning to be a community where people could live and enjoy nature. The area was quite large, covering about 1,650 acres. That's like more than 1,200 football fields! It was built about 10 miles southeast of a city called Lancaster, Ohio.

When it first started, Hide-A-Way Hills had a lodge (a big building for gatherings), a horse barn, and a golf course. The company that first developed the community, Hide-A-Way Hills, Inc., managed everything until 1973.

Building the Lake of the Four Seasons

In 1965, construction began on a large dam. This dam was built to create a beautiful lake called the Lake of the Four Seasons. The lake covers about 110 acres. Building the dam cost around $500,000 and it was finished in 1966.

Five years after the lake was completed, more fun things were added. A marina (a place for boats), a beach, and a playground were built on the north side of the lake.

Residents Take Over Management

The people who lived in Hide-A-Way Hills decided to form their own non-profit club in 1972. A non-profit club means they weren't trying to make money, but rather to manage the community for everyone's benefit. On February 21, 1973, this club officially took over ownership and management from the original developer.

It was decided that the club would be run by a group of nine people called the Board of Trustees. These trustees help make decisions for the community.

Expanding the Community

In 2004, Hide-A-Way Hills grew even bigger. A property next to the community, about 54 acres in size, was put up for sale. The club decided to buy this land in March of that year, adding more space to their community.
