High in the Clouds facts for kids
High in the Clouds is an exciting adventure novel for children. It was written by famous musician Paul McCartney and author Philip Ardagh. Geoff Dunbar created the illustrations. The book was published in October 2005 by Faber and Faber.
Paul McCartney and Geoff Dunbar had worked together before. They made the animated film Rupert and the Frog Song in 1984. For High in the Clouds, they spent several years writing the story and drawing pictures, planning it as another film.
The story begins when a young squirrel named Wirral loses his home. His home, called Woodland, is destroyed by human development. Wirral also loses his mother. Following his mother's last words, Wirral starts a big journey. He meets other animal friends along the way. Together, they search for a secret island called Animalia. This island is a safe place for animals. Wirral's journey is full of challenges and dreams. He and his friends face sad times, conflicts, happiness, and success. They do it all to find freedom and peace.
The main message of the book is about protecting nature. It teaches us that animals should live freely in their natural homes. One newspaper, The Observer, said the book was about the dangers of too much global business.
