Where is Hijuelas?

Hijuelas covers an area of about 267 square kilometers (103 square miles). It is located in a part of Chile known as the Zona Central. This central zone has a special climate that is great for growing plants. Hijuelas is very important because it produces more than 49% of all the flowers grown in Chile! This is why it is known as "The Capital of the Flowers."

According to a census from 2002, about 16,014 people live in Hijuelas. Out of these, 8,161 were men and 7,853 were women. More than half of the people (about 51.2%) lived in city areas, while the rest (about 48.8%) lived in the countryside. The number of people living in Hijuelas grew by almost 15% between 1992 and 2002.

What Does Hijuelas Produce?

The main ways people make a living in Hijuelas are through farming and growing plants. This includes growing many types of flowers, plants, trees, and fruits. Some popular fruits grown here are avocados and citrus fruits like oranges and lemons.
