About This Famous Food Stall
Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle is a well-known street food stall. Singapore has many thousands of these stalls. This stall was started in the 1930s by Tang Joon Teo. Later, in the 1960s, his second son, Tang Chay Seng, took over the business.
When Tang Joon Teo passed away in 1995, he left the stall to his three sons. Tang Chay Seng still runs the original stall today. The stall has moved a few times over the years. It started on Hill Street. In the 1990s, it moved to Marina Square. Then, in 2004, it moved to its current spot on Crawford Lane.
What's on the Menu?
The stall is famous for its bak chor mee. This dish is a type of minced meat noodle. The noodles are mixed with black vinegar, chili paste, and other special ingredients. Tang Joon Teo created this unique recipe.
Other Stalls in the Family
There are other noodle stalls in Singapore run by members of the same family. Tang Chay Seng's brother, Tang Chai Chye, used to run a stall called High Street Tai Wah. Now, his two sons run separate stalls using that name.
Tang Chay Seng's nephew, Arthur Tung Yang Wee, also runs a stall. It is called Lau Dai Hua and is located inside Terminal 2 of Singapore Changi Airport.
