Hillsboro is a small town located in Cain Township, Fountain County, Indiana, United States. In 2020, about 508 people lived there.
History
Hillsboro got its name because of the hilly land around it. The town's post office first opened in 1829. Back then, it was called Hillsborough.
The oldest church in Cain Township was the Methodist church in Hillsboro. It was built in 1870. The church cost about $1,600 to build. When it first started, it had 32 members. By 1880, it had grown to 42 members.
Geography
Hillsboro is easy to find because it's located where two main roads meet: U.S. Route 136 and State Road 341. It's also only about a mile south of Interstate 74, a major highway.
The town covers a total area of about 0.31 square miles (0.81 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
