Hillsboro is a city in Ohio, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Highland County. The city is about 35 miles west of Chillicothe and 50 miles east of Cincinnati. In 2020, about 6,481 people lived there.

History of Hillsboro
Hillsboro was first planned out in 1807. It was likely named for the hills found near where the town was built.
A very important group called the Woman's Christian Temperance Union started in Hillsboro in 1873. This group helped women get the right to vote.
Geography and Location
Hillsboro covers an area of about 5.43 square miles, and all of it is land. The city is located where several important roads meet. These include U.S. Routes 50 and 62. Also, State Routes 73, 124, 138, and 247 pass through the city.

Hillsboro has a climate with warm summers and cold winters. The hottest month is usually July, and the coldest is January. The city gets a good amount of rain throughout the year. Snowfall is most common in January and February.

The city's population has grown over many years. In 1810, only 220 people lived there. By 2020, the population was 6,481.

In 2010, there were 6,605 people living in Hillsboro. Most residents, about 90%, were White. About 5.8% were African American, and smaller groups were Native American or Asian. About 1.3% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
There were 2,755 households in the city. About 30.5% of these homes had children under 18 living there. Many households were families, but about 41.5% were not families. The average age of people in Hillsboro was 38.7 years old.

Hillsboro has a history of making special steel alloy bells. These bells were sent to different places all around the world.

Since 1976, Hillsboro has hosted the "Festival of the Bells." This fun event takes place during the Fourth of July weekend each year.
