History of Hillsdale

Hillsdale got its name from a man named Lathrop Hills. He was a surveyor for the Union Pacific Railroad. A surveyor is someone who measures land to plan out routes for things like railroads. Lathrop Hills was sadly killed near Hillsdale on June 11, 1867. He was leading a group surveying a path for the Transcontinental Railroad when it happened.

In April 2013, Hillsdale was officially mapped out as a townsite. This means its boundaries and plots of land were formally recorded.
