History of Hilton Village
The first person to settle in the area that is now Hilton was Jonathon Underwood. He arrived from Vermont in 1805. The village was first called Unionville.
In 1885, the village officially became a recognized village. It was named North Parma at that time. Later, in 1896, its name was changed to Hilton. This new name honored Reverend Charles Augustus Hilton. He was a pastor at the village's Freewill Baptist Church.
In March 1965, a large fire destroyed more than 60% of the main business area. However, the village was rebuilt after the fire. Two historic buildings in Hilton are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Chase Cobblestone Farmhouse and the Curtis-Crumb Farm.
