Hilton, Georgia facts for kids
Hilton is a small community located in Early County, Georgia, in the United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council, unlike a city or town.
Hilton is situated east of the Chattahoochee River and Columbia, Alabama. It lies west of Blakely. Important roads like Georgia State Route 62 (SR 62) and Georgia State Route 370 (SR 370) pass through this area. SR 370 actually ends in Hilton, connecting with SR 62. SR 62 continues for two miles west of the community. Also, Alabama State Route 52 reaches the Georgia state line just east of Hilton.
The Story of Hilton
Hilton was first established around the year 1880. It got its name from a local businessman named Elisha Hilton.
For a period, Hilton was an official "town." In 1889, the Georgia General Assembly decided to make Hilton an incorporated town. The Georgia General Assembly is the state's main law-making body. They gave Hilton a special document called a charter, which made it an official town. However, this town charter was later ended in 1995. This means Hilton stopped being an official town and became an unincorporated community again.
