The Himsagar Mango is a very popular type of mango, also known as a cultivar. It first came from the areas that are now Bangladesh and the state of West Bengal in India. Many people think it's one of the best mangoes around!

Inside, the Himsagar mango is bright yellow to orange. It's special because it doesn't have any stringy bits, which are called fibre. This fruit is usually medium-sized, weighing about 250 to 350 grams. A big part of that weight, about 77%, is the yummy fruit pulp! It also stays fresh for a good amount of time after being picked. Sometimes, it's also called Khirsapati.

About the Himsagar Mango

What Makes it Special?

The Himsagar mango is loved for its smooth, sweet taste. Unlike some other mangoes, it has no stringy parts inside. This makes it very pleasant to eat. Its rich, creamy texture is a big reason why many people consider it a top choice. It's perfect for eating fresh or using in desserts.

Where Does it Grow?

This special mango is mainly grown in certain parts of Bangladesh and India. In Bangladesh, you'll find many Himsagar mango trees in the Chapai Nawabganj area. In India, it's grown in districts like Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Hooghly in West Bengal. These regions have the perfect climate for this mango to grow well.

The Himsagar mango is also officially recognized under a special protection called a Geographical Indication (G.I.). This means that only mangoes grown in these specific regions can be called "Himsagar." It helps protect the quality and origin of the fruit.

When Can You Find It?

Himsagar mangoes start to ripen in May. You can usually find them fresh in markets from the second week of May until the end of June. This short season makes them even more special and sought after!
