The Hinchinbrook Brook (which is Rivière Hinchinbrooke in French) is a river that flows into the Châteauguay River. It's located on the south side of the Saint Lawrence River. This brook flows through two main areas:
- The municipality of Hinchinbrooke in Quebec, Canada.
- Franklin County in New York State, United States.
You can reach the lower part of the river by roads like Brook Road. The American part of the river is mostly accessible by River Street, which goes south towards the town of Chateaugay.
The Hinchinbrook Brook usually freezes over from mid-December to late March. However, it's safest to walk on the ice from late December to early March. The amount of water in the river changes with the seasons and how much rain or snow falls. The biggest flood of the year usually happens in March or April.

Where the Hinchinbrook Brook Starts and Flows
The Hinchinbrook Brook begins its journey in the mountains and forests of New York State. From its starting point, the river flows for about 31.3 kilometers (about 19.4 miles).
The American Journey
The first part of the river, about 15.2 kilometers (9.4 miles) long, is in the United States. In New York, it's known as Hinchinbrook Brook.
- It flows west for about 9.8 kilometers (6.1 miles), then turns northwest.
- After that, it flows north and then west for about 4.4 kilometers (2.7 miles) until it reaches the border between Canada and the United States. At the border, the land is about 140 meters (459 feet) high.
The Canadian Journey
The second part of the river, about 16.1 kilometers (10 miles) long, is in Canada.
- It flows north through forests for about 4.2 kilometers (2.6 miles). Along the way, it passes west of Parc-Davignon and picks up water from the Brinkworth stream. It also runs alongside Montée Herdman road and crosses Route 202 near the small village of Herdman.
- Next, it flows northwest and then west for about 6.0 kilometers (3.7 miles) through forests and some farms. It forms some winding curves and meets Collins stream.
- It then flows west for about 1.2 kilometers (0.7 miles), turning northwest and going through Moonlight Lake. This lake is about 0.7 kilometers (0.4 miles) long and sits at an altitude of 60 meters (197 feet).
- Finally, it flows northwest for about 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles) through farmland, making more winding turns and crossing Powerscourt. This is where it reaches its end.
The Hinchinbrook Brook joins the Châteauguay River about 5.3 kilometers (3.3 miles) northwest of the Canada-United States border. This spot is also about 5.2 kilometers (3.2 miles) south of the village of Huntingdon.
After joining the Hinchinbrook Brook, the Châteauguay River continues to flow north for about 43.8 kilometers (27.2 miles) until it reaches the St. Lawrence River.
