Hindi Zahra is a talented singer from Khouribga, Morocco. She was born on January 20, 1979. Her stage name is actually her birth name, but spelled backward! Hindi Zahra sings mostly in English. However, some of her songs, like "Imik Si Mik," also feature lyrics in the Shilha language, which is a Berber language.

Her music style is often compared to famous singers like Billie Holiday and Norah Jones. She also gets compared to Beth Gibbons from the band Portishead.

Early Life and Moving to Paris

Hindi Zahra grew up in Khouribga, Morocco. Her mother was a dancer and an actress. When Hindi Zahra was fifteen, she moved to Paris, France. There, she lived with her father, who had been a soldier. At eighteen, she worked at the famous Louvre museum.

Starting Her Music Career

Hindi Zahra taught herself how to play many different musical instruments. She also started writing her own songs. By 2005, she had written about 50 songs! Some of her first songs were "Beautiful Tango" and "Stand Up." These songs were first released on a short music collection called an EP in 2009.

First Album and Awards

In January 2010, Hindi Zahra released her first full album. It was called Handmade. The album came out on a well-known jazz music label, Blue Note Records. The music video for her song "Beautiful Tango" was directed by a French filmmaker named Tony Gatlif. Her song "Stand Up" was even used in a commercial!

Hindi Zahra quickly gained recognition for her music. In November 2010, she won the Prix Constantin award for Best Album. The next year, in February 2011, she won a Victoires de la Musique award. This award was for the best World music album.

Acting and Second Album

Besides singing, Hindi Zahra has also acted in movies. In 2014, she appeared in two films. These were The Narrow Frame of Midnight and The Cut.

In April 2015, she released her second studio album. This album was titled Homeland.

Honors and Recognition

On August 22, 2016, Hindi Zahra received a special honor. She was named a Knight of the Ouissam Al Moukafâa Al Wataniya. This is also known as the Grand Order of National Merit. It is a high award given by King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
