Hiroaki Matsuyama (born August 31, 1967) is a former Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Kyoto, Japan. His brother, Yoshiyuki Matsuyama, was also a football player. Hiroaki Matsuyama is well-known for managing the Bhutan national team.

Playing Career Highlights

Hiroaki Matsuyama started his football journey after finishing university. In 1990, he joined a team called Furukawa Electric. His brother also played for this club.

In 1991, Matsuyama moved to Fujita Industries, which later became known as Bellmare Hiratsuka. Here, he became a regular player, meaning he played in most of the games. His team had a great season in 1993, winning the championship. This win helped them get promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league, starting in 1994.

After 1994, Matsuyama didn't play as much. In June 1995, he moved to Tosu Futures, a club in the Japan Football League (JFL). He played only a few matches there. In 1996, he joined another JFL club, Consadole Sapporo. He didn't play any matches for this team. Matsuyama decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 1996 season.

Coaching Career Journey

After ending his playing career, Hiroaki Matsuyama began coaching. He started as a coach at Consadole Sapporo in 1996, the same club he retired from. He coached there until 1998.

In 2004, he joined Vissel Kobe and became the manager for their reserve team for one season. Later, in 2006, he moved to Oita Trinita. In July 2009, he briefly took over as manager for one match after the previous manager left.

A big step in his coaching career came in May 2010. He left Oita Trinita to become the manager of the Bhutan national team. He coached the Bhutan team for two years, until 2012.
