Hisao Kami (上 久雄, Kami Hisao, born June 28, 1941) is a famous Japanese football (soccer) player and coach. He played as a defender for the Japanese national team.

Hisao Kami's Club Career

Early Days and First Club

Hisao Kami was born in Hiroshima Prefecture on June 28, 1941. After finishing high school, he joined a football club called Yawata Steel in 1960. This club later changed its name to Nippon Steel.

Winning the Emperor's Cup

In 1964, Hisao Kami and his team, Yawata Steel, won a big competition called the Emperor's Cup. This was an important win for the club.

Playing in the Japan Soccer League

In 1965, Yawata Steel became part of a new league. It was called the Japan Soccer League. Hisao Kami played many games in this league. He played 85 games and scored 5 goals. He was a very good player.

Recognized as a Top Player

Hisao Kami was so good that he was chosen for the Best Eleven team. This means he was one of the top 11 players in the league. He received this honor in both 1966 and 1967. He stopped playing football in 1970.

Hisao Kami's National Team Career

Playing for Japan

In October 1964, Hisao Kami was chosen to play for the Japanese national team. He joined the team for the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Olympic Debut

His first game for Japan was on October 16, 1964. They played against the Ghana team. He played as a regular player in important matches.

Asian Games and Olympic Qualifiers

He also played in the 1966 Asian Games. He helped Japan qualify for the 1968 Summer Olympics. However, he was not chosen to play in the actual 1968 Olympics. He played a total of 15 games for Japan until 1968.

Hisao Kami's Coaching Career

Becoming a Coach

After he stopped playing, Hisao Kami became a coach. In 1980, he became the manager for his old club, Nippon Steel. He took over from another coach, Teruki Miyamoto.

Challenges as a Coach

During his time as coach, the club faced some difficulties. They were moved down to Division 2 for the first time. He left his coaching role in 1983.

Returning to Coach

Later, in 1987, Hisao Kami returned to coach Nippon Steel again. He managed the team until 1989.
