Hittisau is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Bregenz district in Vorarlberg, a state in Austria. It covers an area of about 46.65 square kilometers. You can find Hittisau in the beautiful Bregenzerwald area, which is in the western part of Austria. Hittisau is also part of a special German-Austrian project called the Naturpark Nagelfluhkette, which helps protect nature.

History of Hittisau
The town of Hittisau was first mentioned in a document in 1249. Back then, it was called "Hittinsowe." In 1754, about 1,000 people lived there. By 1850, the population had grown to 2,087.
Modern conveniences arrived in the early 20th century. Electricity came to Hittisau in 1908. A water company was built in 1929, making sure homes had clean water.

Hittisau has several interesting places that show its rich culture and history.
Parish Church of the Three Kings
The parish church Hl. Drei Könige (Holy Three Kings) was built between 1843 and 1845. An artist named Josef Bucher painted the large picture of the three kings for the main altar around 1850. Christian Moosbrugger helped a lot with the church's sculptures. The organ, which makes music for the church, was built in 1868 by Alois Schönach.
Sennerei Hittisau (Cheese Factory)
The Sennerei Hittisau is a cheese factory that started in 1977. At first, they mainly made Emmental cheese. After Austria joined the European Union in 1995, they started focusing on making Hittisauer Bergkäse, which is a type of mountain cheese.
Today, this cheese factory is one of the biggest in the Bregenzerwald area. It processes about 5 million kilograms of milk each year. They still make cheese using traditional methods from Vorarlberg. The cheese factory is part of the KäseStraße Bregenzerwald, a special route for cheese lovers.
Alpsennereimuseum
The Alpsennereimuseum is a museum also located in Hittisau. It teaches visitors about how alpine cheese has been made for hundreds of years. It's a great place to learn about the history of cheese production in the region.
Frauenmuseum (Women's Museum)
The Frauenmuseum (Women's Museum) in Hittisau opened in 2000. This unique museum celebrates the achievements and contributions of women. It is the only museum in Austria that focuses on making women's stories and their impact on art and culture visible.
