Hofors is a town in Sweden. It is the main town, also called the "seat," of Hofors Municipality in Gävleborg County. In 2010, about 6,681 people lived there.

Hofors' History

Hofors started as a small community because of its iron industry. This industry began in the 1600s. Over many years, the ironworks in Hofors grew to become one of the most important in all of Sweden. Eventually, it became part of a very large company called SKF.

Famous People from Hofors

Many interesting people have come from Hofors. Here are a few:

  • Kerstin Hesselgren was the first woman ever chosen to be part of the upper house of the Swedish parliament. This was a very important step for women in politics!
  • Andreas Johansson is a former professional ice hockey player. He even played in the NHL, which is a big league in North America.
  • Molly Johnson (1931–2016) was a writer who wrote many novels.
  • Ulf Söderström is another talented ice hockey player.
  • Lasse Åberg is a very creative person. He is an artist, an actor, a film director, and a musician!

Sports in Hofors

Hofors has a strong interest in sports.

  • The main sports club in town is called Hofors AIF. They offer different sports for people to play.
  • From 1984 to 1998, Hofors hosted a big international competition called the Hofors World Cup. This event was for a sport called rink bandy, which is similar to ice hockey but played on a smaller rink.
