Hohtenn is a charming village located in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It is part of the Raron district. Until January 1, 2009, Hohtenn was its own separate municipality. This means it had its own local government, similar to a small town or community.
Since 2009, Hohtenn has joined with another nearby community. It is now part of the larger municipality of Steg-Hohtenn. This change helps the communities work together more closely.
Getting Around Hohtenn
Hohtenn is well-connected, even though it is a small village. It has important transport links that help people travel to and from the area.
Hohtenn Railway Station
The village is home to Hohtenn railway station. This station is located on the famous Lötschberg railway line. The station is about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) away from the main village. It is also about 253 meters (830 feet) higher up than the village itself.
Train Connections
From Hohtenn station, you can catch trains to several important Swiss cities. These include Bern and Thun. You can also travel to Brig, which is another key transport hub. The Lötschberg line is a major route through the Alps.
Bus Services
Besides the train, a PostAuto bus service also connects Hohtenn village. This bus service links Hohtenn directly to Steg. Steg is the main part of the combined municipality. This makes it easy for residents to travel between the two areas.
