The Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum is a planned museum that wants to show off amazing things from science fiction. It's also known by names like SciFi World Tour or Hollywood Science Fiction Museum. This idea for a museum started in August 2012. As of January 2020, the museum is still looking for a permanent home for its cool collection.

What is the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum?

The main goal of the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum is to make people excited about the future. It aims to do this by showing how science fiction can inspire us. The museum plans to teach real science through fun exhibits. This includes topics like technology, robots, space travel, and how movies are made.

The Team Behind It

The Hollywood Science Fiction Foundation is a special group that helps make the museum happen. It's a non-profit organization, which means it uses any money it earns to support its goals, not to make a profit for owners. This foundation was created to help fix up and display a famous Star Trek set. This set is the Enterprise-D display bridge, which was built by Paramount Television.

How the Museum Started

The whole project began in 2012. The team rescued two famous bridge sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: The Original Series. These sets were built by Paramount Pictures in 1997 for touring. The plan was to fix them up and put them on display.

Saving Star Trek Sets

A non-profit group called the "New Starship Foundation" was formed. It included writers, producers, and designers who worked on Star Trek. They started campaigns on websites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. These campaigns helped raise $76,000 to restore the Enterprise-D bridge set. They needed $250,000 in total.

Getting Help from Fans

On May 6, 2014, the "New Starship Foundation" launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum. The money collected was meant to build a temporary museum by 2015. A bigger, permanent museum was planned to open in 2018. By June 15, 2014, the Foundation reached its goal of $82,000 through crowdfunding. This means many people donated small amounts of money to help.

Where Will It Be?

The permanent museum is planned to be in North Hollywood, California. It will be located next to another museum, the Hollywood Horror Museum.

New Name, New Leader

In 2019, the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum changed its name to the "SciFi World Tour." John Purdy, who used to be the director of the Star Trek World Tour, became the new CEO.
