Holt is a small, unincorporated community in San Joaquin County, California. An "unincorporated community" means it's not a city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.
Holt is located about 7.5 miles (12 kilometers) west of downtown Stockton. It sits along a railway line that used to belong to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. Holt even has its own post office with the ZIP code 95234. This post office was first opened in 1902.
How Holt Got Its Name
The community of Holt was named after two important brothers, Benjamin and Charles Holt. They were the founders of the Holt Manufacturing Company. This company was famous for making tractors and other farm machinery.
Later on, the Holt Manufacturing Company became a big part of the Caterpillar company. Today, Caterpillar is well-known for making huge construction equipment like bulldozers and excavators.
What's the Weather Like in Holt?
Holt experiences a type of weather called a "warm-summer Mediterranean climate." On climate maps, this is often shortened to "Csa."
This kind of climate means that Holt usually has hot and dry summers. The winters, on the other hand, are typically mild and wet. It's a climate similar to what you might find in countries around the Mediterranean Sea.
