History of the Church
Building and Opening
The Holy Trinity Church officially opened on May 16, 1854. A special church leader called the Lord Bishop of Exeter blessed it. This ceremony is known as consecration.
Changes and Updates in the 1890s
Later, in the 1890s, the church got bigger and was fixed up. The chancel (the area around the altar) and vestry (a room for clergy robes) were finished in 1897. The nave (main part of the church), aisle (passageway), and porch (entrance) were repaired in 1899.
A special area for baptisms, called a baptistry, was also added. It had a beautiful screen made of carved oak wood. This was built to celebrate the first confirmation service held in the church on December 9, 1898.
Improvements by Canon Carah
Between 1896 and 1934, the church was updated even more. This work was led by Canon James Sims Carah, who was the vicar (a type of priest) for 39 years.
In 1901, a new pulpit (a raised stand for sermons) was put in. Canon Carah also designed a new screen, which was installed in 1925. This screen was built and carved by J.B. Hunt of Plymouth.
Parish Status
What is a Parish?
A parish is like a local area that a church serves. Holy Trinity Church is part of a group of churches that work together. This is called a joint benefice.
Churches Working Together
Holy Trinity Church shares its parish duties with two other churches:
- St Martin and St Meriadoc’s Church, Camborne
- All Saints' Church, Tuckingmill
Stained Glass Windows
Colorful Art in the Church
The church has many beautiful stained glass windows. These windows are made from many pieces of colored glass. They often show pictures or patterns.
These windows were put into the church between 1907 and 1933. They were designed by a company called Clayton and Bell.
Church Organ
Music for Services
The church has a large musical instrument called an organ. This organ was not new when it arrived. It was bought second-hand in 1901 from Lowenac House in Camborne.
You can find more details about this organ in the National Pipe Organ Register. This is a special list that keeps track of organs across the country.
