History of the Church Building
When the Church Opened
This church officially opened on May 16, 1854. A special church leader, the Lord Bishop of Exeter, held a ceremony to make it ready for use.
Changes and Updates Over Time
The church was made bigger and improved in the 1890s. The chancel (the area around the altar) and the vestry (a room for clergy) were finished in 1897. The main part of the church, called the nave, along with the aisle and porch, were fixed up in 1899.
A special area for baptisms, called a baptistry, was also added. It had a beautiful wooden screen carved on two sides. This was built to celebrate the first confirmation service held in the church on December 9, 1898.
Improvements by Canon Carah
Between 1896 and 1934, a vicar named Canon James Sims Carah oversaw many improvements. He was the vicar for 39 years!
- In 1901, a new pulpit was put in. A company called Hancock of Bodmin made it.
- Canon Carah also designed a new screen, which was installed in 1925. This screen was built and carved by J.B. Hunt of Plymouth.

Special Features of the Church
Beautiful Stained Glass Windows
The church has lovely stained glass windows. These colorful windows were put in between 1907 and 1933. They were designed by a company called Clayton and Bell.
The Church Organ
The organ in the church was not new when it arrived. It was bought second-hand in 1901 from a place called Lowenac House in Camborne. You can find details about this organ in a special list called the National Pipe Organ Register.
