Homayoun Behzadi (born June 20, 1942 – died January 22, 2016) was a famous Iranian football player and coach. He was known for playing as a striker, which means he was a forward player whose main job was to score goals.

Early Life and Start in Football

Homayoun Behzadi was born on January 4, 1942, in Khorramabad, a city in Lorestan Province, Iran. He started playing football at a young age. When he was just 16 years old, he joined the senior team of Shahin. He played for Shahin until 1966. He also studied and graduated in Persian language.

Playing Career Highlights

Club Football Journey

In 1967, Behzadi moved to Persepolis, another big football club. The next year, in 1968, he played for Peykan and helped them win the Tehran Championship. After that, he returned to Persepolis in 1969. With Persepolis, he won the Iranian league title twice, first in 1972 and again in 1974.

International Football Success

Homayoun Behzadi also played for the Iranian national team. In 1966, he helped Iran win a silver medal at the Asian Games held in Thailand.

He was a key player when Iran won the Asian Nations Cup in 1968. In that tournament, he scored 4 goals in 4 matches. He even scored the goal that tied the final match against Israel, which Iran then won 2–1. This made him one of the top goal scorers of the tournament. He also won the Asian Nations Cup with Iran again in 1972.

Coaching Career

After his successful playing career, Homayoun Behzadi also became a coach. While he was still playing for Persepolis, he sometimes helped train the team when the main manager, Alan Rogers, was not there.

After he stopped playing in 1975, he became the temporary head coach for Persepolis. He took over after Alan Rogers left. Behzadi started a plan to bring younger players into the first team, which was a big change for the club. His first match as coach was a friendly game that Persepolis won. However, he later lost a match against their big rivals, Taj (now known as Esteghlal). After this, he was replaced by another coach. Later, he managed the B team of Shahbaz for more than ten years.

Illness and Passing

In April 2013, Behzadi had a heart attack and was taken to a hospital in Tehran. After a few days, his doctors said his health was good, and he was able to leave the hospital in May 2013.
