A very unusual event happened in 1875: a meteorite actually fell and struck the town!

By 1881, Homestead was a busy place. It had a train station, a hotel, a post office, and a place to store grain. There was also a meeting house, a school, a general store, and a lumber yard. A large warehouse was used for distributing goods.

Homestead in Popular Culture

Homestead has a connection to some famous things:

  • The actor Ashton Kutcher and his family lived about four miles outside of Homestead. Ashton often talks about Homestead as his hometown because he lived there after his family moved.
  • A Hallmark movie called "Christmas in Homestead" uses the town as its setting. However, none of the movie was actually filmed in Homestead itself.
