Homestead is mostly a place where people live. But it also has some important spots and fun outdoor areas.
Nature and Trails
One of the best parts of Homestead is Marquam Nature Park. You can find it near SW Marquam Street and Sam Jackson Park Road. This park is great for urban hiking. It features the Marquam Trail, which you can follow all the way to Downtown Portland.
Another scenic route in the neighborhood is Terwilliger Boulevard. This road offers lovely views as it winds through the area.
Important Places
In the northern part of Homestead, on Marquam Hill, you'll find two very important medical centers. These are the main campus of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the Portland Veteran Affairs Medical Center.
The Portland Aerial Tram connects these medical centers to the South Waterfront district. This district is part of the South Portland neighborhood, located near the Willamette River just south of Downtown. The tram makes it easy to travel between these areas.
Schools
Students living in the Homestead neighborhood attend several local schools. These include Ainsworth Elementary School and West Sylvan Middle School. For high school, students go to Lincoln High School.
