The Darwin's marked gecko (Homonota darwinii) is a small lizard. It is also sometimes called the prickly gecko. This gecko belongs to the Phyllodactylidae family. It is a special animal because it lives only in Argentina. Scientists have found two types, or subspecies, of this gecko.

Naming the Darwin's Gecko
The scientific name for this gecko is darwinii. It was named to honor a famous English naturalist, Charles Darwin. He wrote a very important book called On the Origin of Species.
Where Darwin's Geckos Live
Darwin's geckos like to live in certain places. Their favorite natural habitats include grasslands, shrublands, and forests. These areas give them good places to hide and find food.
Life Cycle and Reproduction
The Darwin's marked gecko reproduces by laying eggs. This means it is an oviparous animal. The female gecko lays her eggs, and then the baby geckos hatch from them later.
