Hong Yuanshuo (simplified Chinese: 洪元硕; traditional Chinese: 洪元碩; pinyin: Hóng Yuánshuò; born March 31, 1948 – died August 1, 2015) was a famous Chinese football coach and a former player. He spent his entire playing career with the Beijing football team. He even helped them win a league title in 1973. After he stopped playing, he became a scout, finding new talented players. Later, he became a manager. In 2009, he led his old team, Beijing Guoan, to win the Chinese Super League championship.

Hong Yuanshuo's Playing Days
In the early 1970s, Hong Yuanshuo joined the Beijing football team. He played as a winger, which is a player who runs along the sides of the field. He was so good that he became the team captain. In 1973, he was chosen to play for the Chinese national team. That same year, his Beijing team won the league title.
Becoming a Football Manager
After retiring as a player in 1980, Hong Yuanshuo started working with young players in Beijing. He became a scout, which means he looked for new talented footballers. He found many important players for Beijing Guoan and the national team. Some of these players included Gao Feng and Huang Bowen.
Leading Beijing Kuanli
In 1997, Hong Yuanshuo became the manager of Beijing Kuanli, a team in the China League Two. Under his leadership, Beijing Kuanli played very well. They were successfully promoted to a higher league, the Chinese Jia-B League.
Coaching Beijing Guoan to Victory
In 2009, Hong Yuanshuo returned to his old club, Beijing Guoan. He became the temporary manager after the previous coach left. He took over when there were only a few games left in the season. Beijing Guoan then won the championship of the Chinese Super League. They did not lose any games from round 24 to 30!
Because of this great success, Hong was officially made the head coach for the 2010 season. However, he left the club on September 21, 2010.
Personal Life and Passing
Hong Yuanshuo was the son of a famous Chinese philosopher named Hong Qian. Hong Yuanshuo passed away on August 1, 2015, at the age of 67, after an illness.
