Getting Around Hook
Hook is an important spot for travel. State Highway 82, which is a main road, starts here and connects to State Highway 1. State Highway 1 is one of the longest and most important roads in New Zealand.
A railway line, called the Main South Line, also goes through Hook. This railway first opened a long time ago, on 1 February 1877. Even though trains still use the line, the Hook train station is now closed.

Hook is part of a larger area known as the Makikihi-Willowbridge statistical area. This means that when people count how many people live in an area, Hook is counted together with Makikihi and Willowbridge.
