Hopson (also known as Hopson Plantation or Hopson Spur) is a small, spread-out community in Coahoma County, Mississippi. It's not a city with its own local government, but a historic area. You can find it south of Clarksdale, right along U.S. Route 49. This community is located on what used to be the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad line.

Discovering Hopson's History

Hopson has a long history. A post office served the area from 1857 to 1867. This shows that people have lived and worked here for a very long time.

A Farming First

In 1944, something really important happened at Hopson. The Hopson Planting Company made history by using International Harvester cotton pickers. This was the first time a farm used machines to plant, grow, and harvest an entire cotton crop. It was a huge step forward for farming! Before this, most cotton was picked by hand.

Music and Memories

Today, the old Hopson Plantation Company Store has a new life. It used to be a store for the people who worked on the plantation. Now, it's a popular restaurant and a place where people can enjoy live music. It's a great spot to experience the local culture.

Famous People from Hopson

  • Pinetop Perkins was a famous blues pianist. He once worked at Hopson Plantation as a tractor driver. He later became a legend in the blues music world.
