The Horizon Apartments, often called The Horizon, is a tall apartment building. It is located in Darlinghurst, a busy area in the city of Sydney, NSW, Australia. You can find it at 184 Forbes Street. This building was finished in 1998.
Some people had concerns about the building's height. They worried it would cast long shadows over nearby buildings. Many famous people have lived in The Horizon. These include Charlotte Dawson, Harry M. Miller, David Walsh, Jacki Weaver, and Joh Bailey.
Design and Features
The Horizon Apartments building is 143.9 metres (472 ft) (about 472 feet) tall. It has 43 floors. The famous architect Harry Seidler from Australia designed it. Workers built it between 1996 and 1998. The company that built it was Grollo Constructions, also known as Grocon.
The building is made from strong concrete. It has 260 apartments inside. The total space for all the apartments is 32,000 square metres (340,000 sq ft) (about 344,445 square feet). The outside of the building looks wavy or "scalloped." It is covered in smooth, finished concrete.
Views from the Apartments
The design of the building allows for bigger apartments on the top floors. These apartments have balconies that face east. This direction gives them amazing views of the Pacific Ocean.
The building's location and shape were also chosen carefully. This helps many apartments get great views of the famous Sydney Opera House. They can also see the Harbour Bridge.
