History of Hornbeak
Before Hornbeak became a town, a school opened nearby in 1854. This school was located in an area locals called "old Center Cemetery." It taught students until 1885.
Hornbeak was first settled in the 1870s. It was originally known as Wilsonville. By 1887, the town's name changed to Hornbeak. It was named after Frank Hornbeak, who owned a local store and was also the postmaster.
The town got its first bank, the Bank of Hornbeak, in 1904. Hornbeak officially became an incorporated town in 1916. John Hodge was the first mayor of the town.
