Welcome to Hornchurch Stadium! This exciting place is an athletics and football stadium. You can find it on Bridge Avenue in Upminster, which is in the London Borough of Havering in East London, England. It's a busy spot where several sports teams play their games.
The stadium is home to the Hornchurch F.C. and West Ham United L.F.C. football clubs. It also hosts the Havering Mayesbrook Athletics Club. This means you can often see both thrilling football matches and fast-paced athletics events here.
A Look Back: Hornchurch Stadium's History
The Hornchurch Stadium first opened its doors in 1956. It was built by the local government group, the Hornchurch Urban District Council. For many years, it was the main playing field for the original Hornchurch Football Club. That team played at the stadium until it was no longer active in 2005.
What's Inside? Stadium Features
Hornchurch Stadium can hold a lot of fans! It has space for about 3,000 people. Out of these, 800 seats are available for you to sit down and enjoy the action. Plus, 1,400 of the spots are covered, so you can stay dry even if it rains.
One special part of the stadium is a stand called the 'Riverside'. It got this name because the River Ingrebourne flows very close by. Imagine watching a game with a river just a few feet away!
In November 2016, the main stand in the Riverside area got a new name. It was renamed "The Colin McBride Stand." This was done to honor Colin McBride, who was a former chairman and manager for AFC Hornchurch. The AFC Hornchurch Supporters Association chose to rename it to show their appreciation for him.
