Horst Köppel, born on May 17, 1948, is a famous German football player and manager. He played for many big clubs and later coached several teams, including FC Ingolstadt 04.

Playing Career Highlights

Horst Köppel was a very talented football player. He scored 83 goals in Germany's top football league, the Bundesliga. He also played 11 times for the West German national team.

Managerial Career

After his playing days, Horst Köppel became a football manager. He led many different teams over the years.

Arminia Bielefeld

Horst Köppel was the manager of Arminia Bielefeld from July 1, 1982, to June 30, 1983.

Bayer 05 Uerdingen

He then managed Bayer 05 Uerdingen for a short time in 1987. He was replaced by Rolf Schafstall.

Borussia Dortmund

Köppel took over as manager of Borussia Dortmund in July 1988. He stayed with the club until June 1991.

Fortuna Düsseldorf

In 1992, Köppel managed Fortuna Düsseldorf for a few months.

Tirol Innsbruck

From July 1993 to May 1994, Köppel was the manager of Tirol Innsbruck.

Urawa Red Diamonds

He also managed the Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds for almost a year in 1997.

In 2004, Köppel joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. He first managed their reserve team, Borussia Mönchengladbach II. He also had two periods as the main team's caretaker manager and then full manager. He was the main manager from April 2005 until May 2006.

Al-Wahda FC

In August 2006, Köppel became the manager of Al-Wahda FC in Abu Dhabi. He left the club in October of the same year.

Ingolstadt 04

His last known managing role was with Ingolstadt 04. He started there in April 2009 and finished in November 2009.
