The Story of Hoss's
Hoss's Steak and Sea House was started in 1983. A man named Willard E. "Bill" Campbell founded the first restaurant. It opened in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Today, Bill Campbell is still in charge as the Chairman and CEO. His son, Craig, helps plan new ideas for the company. Bill's wife, Nancy, also worked for the company for 24 years.
Building Beyond Restaurants
In 1998, Hoss's did more than just run restaurants. They used their own construction company to build a new bathroom and storage building. This project was in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
Awards and Challenges
Hoss's has won awards for being a great place to work. In 2008, they were named one of the "Best Places to Work in PA." This was the second year in a row and the fourth time they received this honor. In 2011, a Hoss's restaurant in Hummelstown faced a big challenge. It was flooded by Tropical Storm Lee. The water was over six feet deep, and the restaurant had to close for eight months.
In March 2013, Hoss's was recognized again. They won the "2013 Chain Operator" award. This was part of the Beef Checkoff Program's National Foodservice Beef Backer Awards. In May 2014, Hoss's tried to create a "National Steak Day." They started a petition to make May 31 this special day, but they didn't get enough signatures.
Restaurant Style and Look
Hoss's restaurants are known for their unique decorations. The walls are covered with old American newspapers, photos, and other items. Many of these items are from the local area. For example, one restaurant has a front page from an Erie newspaper. It shows the story of Victory over Japan Day in 1945. The original design of the restaurants was created by Donald R. Langer.
