Hossein Kaebi started his football career in the youth team of Esteghlal Ahvaz F.C.. He then moved to Foolad. There, a coach named Vinko Begović quickly saw his talent. Hossein was very young but soon joined the first team.

He was chosen to play for Iran's Under-17 team in the AFC U-17 Championship 2000. Soon after, he was also picked for the senior national team. European clubs noticed him early on. In 2003, he had a three-week trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers in England.

While at Leicester City, Kaebi used a translator because he could not speak English. After the manager, Martin Allen, was fired, Kaebi was moved to the reserve team. He felt frustrated about not playing in the main team. He even said he might leave Leicester if he kept sitting on the bench.

He finally started a game on December 11, 2007, in a 3–1 loss to Ipswich Town. However, he was put on the transfer list by the new manager, Ian Holloway, on December 23. He left Leicester City on February 4, 2008.

Returning to Iranian Clubs

After his time in England, Kaebi returned to Persepolis in Iran. He helped them win Iran's Premier Football League for the second time. Even though Persepolis wanted him to stay, he decided to join Saipa F.C.. He played for Saipa for two seasons and also played in the Asian Champions League.

Later, he joined Steel Azin for two seasons. In 2011, he moved to Rah Ahan, where he played under his former coach Ali Daei. He then played for Sanat Naft and Esteghlal Khuzestan.
