Early Life and Music Beginnings
Javarri Latre Walker was born on June 13, 2000, in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in the Pine Hills neighborhood, which is on the west side of Orlando. He is one of 17 siblings! As a kid, he enjoyed listening to artists like Lil Wayne, Rich Homie Quan, and Kodak Black.
Hotboii started rapping when he was just seven years old. He began releasing his music in 2016 with help from his mother. He would upload his songs to platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube, sharing his talent with the world.
Hotboii's Music Career
Hotboii started gaining local attention for his song "Switcharoo." In September 2018, he released his first music video for a song called "Life of a Dog." In 2019, he released "YG's," a song that shared his experiences and survival tips from growing up in the streets. This song quickly became popular.
In early 2020, Hotboii collaborated with other artists like Stunna 4 Vegas on "4PF Like Baby" and Rylo Rodriguez on "Sick of Cell." His big breakthrough came on April 27, 2020, with the release of his song "Don't Need Time." This song was written in memory of his friend Wolph. It was a slower, more thoughtful song, different from his earlier music.
In just five months, "Don't Need Time" was streamed over nine million times on Spotify. Its music video, filmed at Wolph's funeral, gained more than 24 million views on YouTube. On August 25, a remix of "Don't Need Time" was released, featuring the popular rapper Lil Baby. This remix also came with a new music video. "Don't Need Time" was certified Gold in April 2021 and then Platinum in July 2022, showing how much people loved it.
Hotboii released his first mixtape, Kut Da Fan On, on May 22, 2020. This mixtape included his popular songs like "Don't Need Time," "YG's," and "Goat Talk." It also featured other Florida rappers like Plies and LPB Poody. Music critics praised the mixtape. Pitchfork said he became even better at telling powerful stories from the streets. Audiomack called it "41 minutes of amazing hip-hop." After releasing more music videos, he teamed up with Chicago rapper Polo G for "Goat Talk 2," which became one of his most popular songs.
He then signed with Interscope Records, Geffen Records, and Rebel Music. With these labels, he released his first studio album, Double O Baby, on December 22. This album featured artists like Lil Mosey, Toosii, and Pooh Shiesty. Songs on the album, such as "Malcolm X" and "Problems (No Rights)," talked about important social issues. Elevator Mag praised his "amazing flow and honest storytelling" on the album. Later that month, he performed at Rolling Loud's Home for the Holidaze online concert.
On July 29, 2022, Hotboii released his third studio album, Blinded By Death. This album had guest appearances from big names like Lil Uzi Vert, Big30, and Kodak Black. The song "Nobody Special" was the main single from the album. Blinded By Death was a big success, reaching number 89 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the first time one of his projects appeared on a major music chart! In October 2023, he released the song "N.A.S.A." with his frequent music producer ATL Jacob.
