How to Eat Fried Worms is a funny children's book written by Thomas Rockwell. It was first published in 1973. The story is about a group of friends and a very unusual bet. One of the boys agrees to eat worms!
This popular book was later made into a CBS Storybreak episode in the 1980s. It also became a movie with the same name in 2006. The story continues in two other books: How to Fight a Girl and How to Get Fabulously Rich.
The Big Worm Bet
The main story begins when a boy named Alan dares Billy to do something wild. Alan challenges Billy to eat one worm every day for 15 days! If Billy wins, he gets $50. That's a lot of money for a kid!
Billy's friend, Tom, helps him prepare the worms. They try different ways to make them taste better. They use things like ketchup, mustard, horseradish, and even maple syrup. Imagine eating a worm with maple syrup!
Eventually, Billy's parents find out about the strange bet. But they let him finish the challenge. Billy keeps going, day after day, and he finally wins the bet!
With his new $50, Billy buys a mini-bike. He rides it to his favorite lunch spot. The story ends with a funny twist. Billy has gotten so used to eating worms that he just can't stop!
