Howard Paul Donald (born 28 April 1968) is a famous English singer, songwriter, and dancer. He is best known as a member of the popular pop group Take That. He has also been a judge on a German TV dance show called Got to Dance.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Howard grew up in Droylsden, England, with his brothers and sister. He went to Littlemoss High School. After school, he trained for three years to become a vehicle painter.

From a young age, Howard loved music and wanted to be a DJ. He was inspired by his brother's record collection. He enjoyed electronic music from bands like Kraftwerk and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). As a teenager, Howard became very interested in dancing. He often went to breakdancing events in the Manchester area. This is where he first met Jason Orange, who would later become his bandmate. Howard then auditioned for a new boy band and was chosen to join. This group eventually became known as Take That.

Howard Donald's Career

Joining Take That

Howard Donald joined Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen, and Robbie Williams to form the British boy band, Take That. The band quickly became very successful. They enjoyed five years of fame before Robbie Williams left in 1995. The remaining four members continued as a group. Howard, along with Jason Orange, sang lead vocals on fewer songs than Gary, Mark, and Robbie. However, Howard famously sang lead on their number one hit song "Never Forget" in 1995.

Take That Splits and Reforms

In early 1996, the band decided to split up. Howard was not happy about this decision, but he accepted it. After Take That broke up, Howard tried to start a solo music career. He recorded a song called "Speak Without Words," but it was never officially released. He also went back to being a DJ.

In 2005, Take That announced they were getting back together! They went on a reunion tour called The Ultimate Tour in 2006. This happened after they released their Greatest Hits album. Later in 2006, they released their first new studio album since 1995, called Beautiful World. This album gave them two more number one hits: "Patience" and "Shine". On Beautiful World, Howard sang lead vocals on two songs: "Beautiful World" and "Mancunian Way." "Mancunian Way" is a special song that pays tribute to their hometown of Manchester.

Later Albums with Take That

Howard continued to sing lead vocals on many songs in later Take That albums.

  • On The Circus (2008), he sang lead on "What Is Love" and "Here." He also shared vocals on "The Garden".
  • For Progress (2010), Howard sang lead on "Affirmation." He also played drums on several songs.
  • On III (2014), he sang "Give You My Love."
  • On Wonderland (2017), he sang "Every Revolution."
  • On their 2023 album This Life, Howard sang lead on "March Of The Hopeful" and "One More Word."

Other Projects

In 2021, Howard appeared on a TV show called The Masked Dancer in the UK. He was dressed as "Zip" and made it to the final, finishing in third place. From 2013 to 2014, Howard was a judge on a German dancing show called Got to Dance. He also still works as a professional DJ, often playing at 'Take That After Party' events.

Personal Life

Howard went to Moorside Primary School and Littlemoss High School. In January 2015, Howard married illustrator Katie Halil. They had a private ceremony with close family and friends.
