Howie Roseman's Early Life
Howie Roseman was born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 23, 1975. He grew up in Marlboro Township, New Jersey. He went to Marlboro High School there.
Even in high school, Roseman dreamed of working in the NFL. He started sending letters to every team. He kept trying while he was studying at the University of Florida. He also continued during his time at Fordham University School of Law. His hard work led him to connect with Mike Tannenbaum. Mike was then a director for the New York Jets. In 1999, Tannenbaum interviewed Roseman for a job. It was an intern position, but Roseman did not get it.
Howie Roseman's Football Career
Roseman kept trying to get into the NFL. In 2000, the Philadelphia Eagles hired him as an intern. He worked on managing the team's player salaries. In 2003, he was promoted to director of football administration. Then, in 2006, he became vice president of football administration.
Roseman continued to move up in the Eagles' front office. For two years, he was the vice president of player personnel. On January 29, 2010, he became the Eagles' general manager. This happened after Tom Heckert, the previous general manager, left for the Cleveland Browns. Even as general manager, Roseman mostly advised the head coach, Andy Reid. Coach Reid made the final decisions about the team.
Building the Eagles Roster
In his first year as general manager, Roseman worked hard on the Eagles' team. He helped make it one of the youngest teams in the league. This new Eagles team won the NFC East division championship in 2010.
Three years later, in 2013, Roseman helped the Eagles chairman, Jeffrey Lurie. They searched for a new head coach. They chose Chip Kelly, who was a coach at the University of Oregon. Like Andy Reid, Chip Kelly had the final say on the team's players. So, Roseman continued to work mostly as an advisor.
In their first season together, Roseman and Kelly led the Eagles to 10 wins. They also won another division championship. This was a big improvement from the team's 4–12 record in 2012.
As general manager, Roseman had many duties. He oversaw the team's scouting departments. These departments looked for new players from colleges and other pro teams. He also managed the team's medical, equipment, and video staffs. Roseman also controlled the team's salary cap and supervised team security.
Winning the Super Bowl
On January 2, 2015, the Eagles changed their front office structure. Chip Kelly was given general manager duties. Roseman was promoted to executive vice president of football operations. In this new role, Roseman still handled player contracts. He also managed the team's salaries and oversaw the medical and equipment staff.
After Chip Kelly was no longer with the team, Roseman became the main general manager again in 2016. He then hired Doug Pederson as the Eagles' new head coach. Roseman helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII in 2018. The team beat the New England Patriots 41–33 in an exciting game. On June 13, 2019, he was promoted to executive vice president and general manager.
Community Work
Roseman also plays a big part in the Eagles' community efforts. He helps with many programs for military families and children. Roseman supports the Eagles Youth Partnership. This charity helps over 50,000 low-income children in the Philadelphia area each year. It focuses on health and education programs. He also works with Eagles Care.
Roseman has also worked with other charities. These include Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, USA Football, Pop Warner, and Cop Wheels. He was named an Honorary Commander for the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. This was for his ongoing support of the military.
