Howie Roseman's Early Life
Roseman was born in Brooklyn, New York City on June 23, 1975. He grew up in Marlboro Township, New Jersey. He later graduated from Marlboro High School.
Even when he was in high school, Roseman started sending letters to every NFL team. He kept trying to get a job in football while he was at the University of Florida. He also continued his efforts during his time at Fordham University School of Law. His hard work helped him connect with Mike Tannenbaum, who worked for the New York Jets. Tannenbaum interviewed Roseman for a job in 1999, but Roseman did not get that position.
Roseman's Football Career
After trying again, Roseman was hired by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2000. He started as an intern, helping with player salaries. He was promoted to director of football administration in 2003. Later, in 2006, he became the vice president of football administration.
Roseman kept moving up in the Eagles' front office. He worked as the vice president of player personnel for two years. On January 29, 2010, he was named the Eagles' general manager. At first, he mostly advised the head coach, Andy Reid, who made the final decisions.
Building the Eagles Team
In his first year as general manager, Roseman worked hard on the Eagles' team roster. He helped build one of the youngest teams in the league. That new Eagles team won the NFC East division championship in 2010.
Three years later, in 2013, Roseman helped the Eagles' chairman, Jeffrey Lurie, find a new head coach. They chose Chip Kelly from the University of Oregon. Like Andy Reid, Kelly had the final say on the team's players. So, Roseman continued to work mostly as an advisor.
In their first season together, Roseman and Kelly led the Eagles to win 10 games. They also won a division championship. This was a big improvement from the team's 4–12 record in 2012.
Roseman's Responsibilities
As general manager, Roseman had many important jobs. He oversaw the Eagles' college and professional scouting departments. He also managed the team's medical, equipment, and video staffs. He controlled the team's salary cap and supervised team security.
On January 2, 2015, the team's front office structure changed. Chip Kelly was given the general manager duties. Roseman was promoted to executive vice president of football operations. In this new role, Roseman continued to handle player contract negotiations. He also managed the team's salary and oversaw the medical and equipment staff.
After Kelly left the team, Roseman became the main general manager again in 2016. He helped hire Doug Pederson as the Eagles' new head coach. Roseman helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII in 2018. They defeated the New England Patriots 41–33 in that game. On June 13, 2019, he was promoted to executive vice president and general manager. He won a second Super Bowl championship when the Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 40–22 in Super Bowl LIX.
Community Involvement
Roseman is also very involved in the Eagles' community efforts. He helps with many projects that support military families and children. His charity work has helped the Eagles Youth Partnership. This is the team's public charity that helps over 50,000 children in the Philadelphia area each year. They focus on health and education programs.
Roseman has also worked with other groups like Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. He has supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, USA Football, and Pop Warner. He was named an Honorary Commander for the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst for his work with the military.
