Andy Reid is a famous American football coach. He is currently the head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the Chiefs, Reid was the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2012.
Andy Reid is known as one of the greatest NFL coaches ever. He is the only NFL coach to win 100 games with two different teams. He is also the only coach to reach four straight conference championships with two different teams.
Reid started his professional coaching career with the Green Bay Packers in 1992. He helped the team win Super Bowl XXXI. In 1999, he became the head coach of the Eagles. Under his leadership, the Eagles often made it to the playoffs. He led them to nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl XXXIX appearance.
In 2013, Reid became the head coach of the Chiefs. He helped turn the team into one of the best in the league. The Chiefs won their first playoff game since 1993 in 2015. Early Life and Football Journey
Andy Reid was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 19, 1958. He went to John Marshall High School. As a teenager, he worked selling things at Dodger Stadium.
When he was 13, Reid appeared on Monday Night Football. He took part in the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. He was already very big for his age.
Playing Days
Reid played football as an offensive tackle. He played at Glendale Community College. Later, he played for BYU. At BYU, he was teammates with future NFL stars like Jim McMahon.
His teammates remember that Reid didn't play much. However, he was very good at studying the game. He learned a lot from his coaches. In his senior year, BYU won the 1980 Holiday Bowl.
Coaching Career Highlights
After college, Reid decided to become a football coach. He spent nine years coaching the offensive line at different colleges. He coached at places like San Francisco State and the University of Missouri.
Green Bay Packers Assistant Coach
In 1992, Andy Reid joined the Green Bay Packers as an assistant coach. He worked with Mike Holmgren, who was the head coach. Reid helped the Packers win Super Bowl XXXI in 1996. He later became the team's quarterbacks coach.
Leading the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles hired Andy Reid as their head coach on January 11, 1999. He was one of the youngest head coaches in the league. He was also the first head coach hired without first being an offensive or defensive coordinator.

One of his first big decisions was drafting quarterback Donovan McNabb. In his first year, the Eagles improved their record. In 2000, they made the playoffs for the first time in years.
In 2001, Reid also became the executive vice president of football operations for the Eagles. This meant he had the final say on football decisions.

The Eagles won their division four years in a row, from 2001 to 2004. They reached the NFC Championship game three times but lost. In 2004, they finally won the NFC Championship. This led them to Super Bowl XXXIX, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

Success with the Kansas City Chiefs

On January 4, 2013, Andy Reid became the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. In his first game, the Chiefs won by a large margin. In Week 3, Reid returned to Philadelphia to play against his old team, the Eagles. The crowd gave him a standing ovation. The Chiefs won the game.
Reid led the Chiefs to a great start in 2013, winning their first nine games. They finished the season with an 11–5 record and made the playoffs. In 2015, the Chiefs started 1–5. However, they won all their remaining games and made the playoffs. They won their first playoff game since 1993.
In 2016, the Chiefs won their division for the first time under Reid. They also earned a first-round bye in the playoffs. In 2017, the Chiefs won their division again.
The Patrick Mahomes Era
The 2018 season brought new success with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes won the MVP award in his first year as a starter. The Chiefs finished as the top team in the AFC. They won their first home playoff game since 1993. They hosted the AFC Championship for the first time but lost to the New England Patriots.
In 2019, the Chiefs won their division for the fourth year in a row. They reached Super Bowl LIV and defeated the San Francisco 49ers. This was the Chiefs' first Super Bowl victory in 50 years. It was also Andy Reid's first Super Bowl win as a head coach.
Reid signed a contract extension with the Chiefs in 2020. The Chiefs had their best season ever with a 14–2 record. They reached Super Bowl LV but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2021, Reid became the first NFL head coach to win 100 games with two different teams. He also became the fifth-most-winningest coach in NFL history. The Chiefs reached their fourth straight AFC Championship Game.
In the 2022 season, Reid led the Chiefs to a 14–3 record. They won their division for the seventh year in a row. The Chiefs made it to Super Bowl LVII and won against his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles. This was Reid's second Super Bowl victory as a head coach.
In the 2023 season, Reid led the Chiefs to another AFC West title. They reached Super Bowl LVIII and won against the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. Reid became a Super Bowl champion for the third time as head coach. The Chiefs were the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2003 and 2004.
In the 2024 season, Reid led the Chiefs to a record 15 wins. They reached their third straight Super Bowl, Super Bowl LIX. They lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch. Reid became the sixth coach in NFL history to lose three Super Bowls.

Andy Reid is married and has three sons and two daughters. His family belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Reid has appeared in commercials with Patrick Mahomes for State Farm. He also appeared in commercials for Snickers. In 2024, he made a guest appearance in the Hallmark Channel movie Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.
