Andy Reid's Early Life & Playing Days
Andy Reid was born in Los Angeles on March 19, 1958. When he was a teenager, he worked selling snacks at Dodger Stadium. He also played youth sports in East Hollywood. At just 13 years old, Reid even appeared on Monday Night Football during a "Punt, Pass, and Kick" competition!
He played offensive tackle in college, first at Glendale Community College and then at Brigham Young University (BYU) from 1978 to 1980. At BYU, he was teammates with future NFL star Jim McMahon. In his final year at BYU, Reid's team won the 1980 Holiday Bowl. Even though he didn't play much, his teammates remember him as being very smart and always studying football strategy.
Andy Reid's Coaching Journey Begins
After college, Andy Reid decided to become a football coach. He started as a graduate assistant at BYU in 1982. For the next nine years, he worked as an offensive line coach for several colleges, including San Francisco State, Northern Arizona University, the University of Texas at El Paso, and the University of Missouri.
Becoming an NFL Assistant Coach
In 1992, Reid got his first NFL coaching job with the Green Bay Packers. He was hired by Mike Holmgren, who had been his colleague at BYU. This was the same year that legendary quarterback Brett Favre joined the Packers. Reid worked as an assistant offensive line and tight ends coach.
In 1997, he became the Packers' quarterbacks coach. He helped the team win Super Bowl XXXI in 1997, which was a huge achievement!
Leading the Philadelphia Eagles (1999–2012)
In 1999, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Andy Reid as their head coach. He was one of the youngest head coaches in the league at the time. Many people were surprised because he hadn't been an offensive or defensive coordinator before.
One of his first big moves was drafting quarterback Donovan McNabb. Under Reid's leadership, the Eagles became a very strong team.
- In 2000, the Eagles had a great season, winning 11 games and their first playoff game since 1995.
- In 2001, Reid also became the team's executive vice president, meaning he had the final say on football decisions.
- From 2001 to 2004, the Eagles won their division four times in a row and reached the NFC Championship game each year. They lost the first three, but in 2004, they finally won the NFC Championship!
- The 2004 Eagles made it to Super Bowl XXXIX, but they lost a close game to the New England Patriots by a score of 24–21.

Reid continued to lead the Eagles through ups and downs. In 2006, after a tough start, he helped the team turn things around with backup quarterback Jeff Garcia, winning their division. In 2008, the Eagles reached the NFC Championship game again, but lost to the Arizona Cardinals.

After the 2012 season, where the Eagles had a difficult 4–12 record, Andy Reid's contract was not renewed. He was the longest-serving head coach in the NFL at that time. During his 14 years with the Eagles, Reid had the most wins (120) and playoff victories (10) in the team's history. He helped 19 players go to the Pro Bowl, even though none of them had been before he arrived.

Leading the Kansas City Chiefs (2013–Present)
On January 4, 2013, Andy Reid became the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. He quickly started to turn the team around.

- In his first game, the Chiefs won by a large margin.
- In Week 3, Reid returned to Philadelphia to play against his old team, the Eagles. The crowd gave him a standing ovation, and the Chiefs won the game!

- In 2015, after a slow 1–5 start, the Chiefs won all their remaining regular-season games, making it to the playoffs. They won their first playoff game since 1993, shutting out the Houston Texans.
- In 2016, the Chiefs won their division for the first time under Reid, finishing with a 12–4 record.
The Patrick Mahomes Era (2018–Present)
A new era of success began in 2018 with quarterback Patrick Mahomes becoming the main starter.
- In 2018, with Mahomes winning the MVP award, the Chiefs finished as the top team in the AFC. They won a home playoff game for the first time since 1993 and hosted the AFC Championship game for the first time ever, though they lost to the New England Patriots.
- In 2019, the Chiefs won their division for the fourth year in a row. They made it to Super Bowl LIV, their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years! The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31–20, giving Andy Reid his first Super Bowl win as a head coach.
- In 2020, Reid signed a contract extension. The Chiefs had a franchise-best 14–2 record and reached Super Bowl LV, but lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- In 2021, Reid became the first NFL head coach to win 100 games with two different teams. The Chiefs reached their fourth straight AFC Championship game, but lost a close game to the Cincinnati Bengals.
- In 2022, Reid led the Chiefs to another 14–3 record and their seventh straight AFC West title. They won the AFC Championship and faced his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in Super Bowl LVII. The Chiefs won a thrilling game 38–35, earning Reid his second Super Bowl victory as a head coach.
- In 2023, the Chiefs won the AFC West again. Reid led them to Super Bowl LVIII, where they defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime. This was Reid's third Super Bowl win as head coach, and the Chiefs became the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since 2004.
