Hristu Cândroveanu was a Romanian writer, editor, and critic. He was born on February 5, 1928, and passed away on December 9, 2013. He belonged to the Aromanian ethnic group. Cândroveanu wrote many books about Aromanians. He also led several magazines and was part of different Aromanian groups.

Biography

Hristu Cândroveanu was born on February 5, 1928. His birthplace was Babuc, a village in what was then Romania. Today, this village is in Bulgaria.

He studied at the University of Bucharest. In 1952, he finished his studies in Philology. After graduating, he worked as a Romanian language teacher. He taught for several years in different parts of Romania. These areas included Călărași and Prahova counties. He also taught in the city of Ploiești.

His Writing Career

Cândroveanu started his writing journey in 1973. His first book was a collection of poems called Poeme. Over the years, he wrote many works about the Aromanians. This is an ethnic group he was part of.

In the 1980s, he became a literary critic and editor. He worked at Tomis, a well-known magazine in Romanian Dobruja. He also became the main editor of a newspaper called Livres roumains. This name means "Romanian Books."

Leading Aromanian Magazines and Groups

Hristu Cândroveanu also started and managed two Aromanian magazines. These were Deșteptarea, which means "The Awakening," and Dimândarea, meaning "The Will."

In 1992, he founded the Dimândarea Părintească Aromanian Cultural Foundation. He also became the president of the Macedo-Romanian Cultural Society.

Cândroveanu believed that Aromanians were not a separate ethnic group. He thought they were part of the larger Romanian people. He was critical of Romania's government during the communist era. He felt they had ignored the Aromanian people living in the Balkans. He said this had very bad effects on their schools, churches, and cultural sites.

Hristu Cândroveanu passed away on December 9, 2013.
