Where Does the Hudson River Start?

The Hudson River begins in Banks County. This area is close to the city of Homer. The very beginning of a river is called its headwaters.

Where Does the Hudson River Flow?

As the Hudson River flows, another river called the Grove River joins it. This happens near the border of Franklin County. The Hudson River then forms most of the southern border of Franklin County. It separates Franklin County from Madison County.

Another small stream, Nails Creek, also flows into the Hudson River along this border. Soon after, the Hudson River flows into the Broad River. This meeting point is south of the city of Franklin Springs.

Part of a Bigger River System

The Hudson River is a "tributary" of the Broad River. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river. The Broad River then flows into the Savannah River. This means the Hudson River's water eventually becomes part of the Savannah River's "watershed." A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a common river or lake.
