Hugh Yancy, born on October 16, 1949, is a former American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox. He was with the team for parts of three seasons between 1972 and 1976. Hugh was a right-handed batter and thrower.
Hugh Yancy's Baseball Journey
Hugh Yancy's journey in baseball began when he was chosen by the Chicago White Sox. They picked him in the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft. This was a big step toward playing in the major leagues.
Playing for the White Sox
Hugh Yancy first played for the White Sox in 1972. He appeared in three games as a second baseman. He got one hit in nine chances to bat.
In 1974, Hugh played in just one game. He came in as a pinch hitter, which means he batted in place of another player. In this game, he successfully made a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice bunt is when a batter hits the ball softly to move a runner to the next base, even if the batter gets out.
His final games in the major leagues were in 1976. He played in three more games as a third baseman. He got one hit in ten turns at bat during that season.
After the Major Leagues
After the 1976 season, Hugh Yancy was traded to the Cincinnati Reds. However, he did not play in the major leagues again. He spent one season playing for a team in the Reds' minor league system.
Later, he played for teams in the Cleveland Indians organization during 1978 and 1979. After that, Hugh Yancy retired from playing professional baseball.
