Hugh de Moravia was an important Scottish noble who lived a long time ago. He passed away around the year 1219. He was known as the Lord of Duffus, Strathbrock, and Sutherland, which were large areas of land in Scotland.
Hugh's family came from a region called Flanders, which is now part of modern-day Belgium. His great-grandfather, Freskin, moved to Scotland when King David I of Scotland was ruling. Hugh's father, William, was Freskin's oldest son.
King William I of Scotland gave Hugh's father, William, a lot of land. This included areas like Strathbrock in West Lothian and many places in Moray, such as Duffus, Roseisle, Inchkeil, Machir, and Kintrae. Hugh inherited all these lands when his father passed away. Around 1210, he also received even more land and became known as the Lord of Sutherland.
Hugh's Family and Children
Hugh de Moravia had several children who also became important figures in Scottish history.
His Sons
